The Thing with Habit

Change is inevitable
they say,
famously so
but habits die hard;
That man is a creature
of habit.

Here’s the thing with habits,

They are comfortable
They entwine you
in a cocoon of familiarity
warm and cozy.
Poisonous sometimes
but always tantalizing
that silken embrace
so known and so embracing

Here’s the thing with habits,

To change one,
a simple, single one
you’ll need steel;
Some real iron will
And the rest
will follow still.

The prompt for Day 11 of NaPoWriMo 2017 is the Bop; the invention of poet Afaa Michael Weaver, the Bop is a kind of combination sonnet + song.
